I had written previously about a possible roadmap toward cycling achievement for my son. While that is still viable, there are other paths to take that don’t go through USA Cycling. Continue reading

Lessons From Pro Racing
“I can temporarily live a Pro life, eat Pro food, have Pro kit and even Pro(ish) legs, I don’t think I’ll ever have a Pro head. And that’s the difference.” Continue reading

Junior Racing: The Pathway
Junior racers are those racers aged 18 or younger. When a rider begins racing at a young age, they have a decided advantage over us old fogies. We are set in our ways and find it very difficult to change. They are young, malleable and will soon be entering the athletic ability pinnacles of their lives during the mid- to upper-20′s. The Cancellara Show
Cancellara is amazing! He did the exact same thing last week as he did today. Everyone knew the danger he posed, and yet they let him do it again.
Aside from Cancellara’s amazing demonstration of strength, this was a pretty poor race. The favorites–Boonen, Pozzato, Hushovd, Flecha–all played their games over the last 40k. With firepower like that, surely no one in the world could hold them off?! All they had to do was organize a nice, rotating paceline–something any cat 3 racer can do. But no. They all raced against Boonen. “You want this race? You catch him,” they said. And because of that, they all raced for second place–1st loser. Shame on them.
Boonen? He’s got some power, but something is lacking. He’s not riding smart this year. He’s very active, almost like he wants to show-off his abilities. Well, they came back to haunt him again, for what? the 6th time this year? Better luck in TdF (green jersey).
