Many motorists complain about how cyclists don’t respect cars’ right to the road, then complain when drivers don’t respect theirs.
However, there is a major distinction between the two arguments:
When a cyclist disrespects drivers… nothing happens. Maybe the drivers’ feelings got hurt. Due to our stop-lights & signs, I’m thinking the driver isn’t even delayed by the cyclist. Certainly not by much.
But, when a car disrespects cyclists… the cyclist could very well die.
Nice article about Maryland’s new 3-foot passing bill being signed into law by the governor and the negative response by some drivers.
Unfortunately, people get set in their ways and beliefs and refuse to listen and be impacted by compelling arguments. Anti-cyclist drivers will come up with some way to justify their behavior and endangerment of cyclists out on the road. Even if these reasons make absolutely no sense and are completely illogical.
